Publishing Options & Revisions

Publishing Options is the last set of options when creating or editing a node. Only users with the 'administer nodes' privilege will see them.

The default publishing options for each content type will be set by the site administrator when configuring the site.

If the 'Published' checkbox is checked, the node is published, and will be available to anonymous users. If the 'Published' checkbox is not checked, the node is unpublished, and is not visible to anonymous users and won't be included in most views.  If an unpublished node is linked in a menu, the link will still appear for anonymous users, so make sure unpublished content is not contained within a menu!

'Promoted to front page' is used often for block views on home pages. For example, you might want to show a few featured upcoming events on the home page. You can set the view parameters to only include upcoming events that have been 'promoted to front page.' Then, only events in which 'Promoted to front page' has been checked will appear on the home page.

'Sticky at top of lists' promotes a node to the top of views containing it. This isn't currently used in Arts & Sciences.

'Create new revision' may or may not be available to all users. This option is only useful when editing an existing node. If you are editing a node, you may choose to save your changes as a new version. This allows users to revert back to the earlier version if you decide that you don't like the changes. To save a node as a new version, simply check the 'Create new revision' checkbox before submitting. If you want to add a note about what you changed for other users, you can enter it in the log message text area.

If a node has past versions, there will be a 'Revisions' tab in addition to the 'View' and 'Edit' tabs for that node. You can view a list of past version with notes about the changes by clicking the 'Revisions' tab.

The current version is displayed at the top. To roll back to an earlier version, click the 'revert' link next to the version to which you wish to revert.  Keep in mind, each version is a full version of the node, and Drupal will not automatically delete prior versions, so if you plan to use this functionality, make sure to periodically delete prior versions using the 'delete' link next each older version.

Also, note that if you create a new version of a node and unpublish it, the older version will not be displayed.
